Do you ever think about medical transportation? Probably not. Why would you…unless you need it? But, then again, is it really wise to wait until you need medical transportation to consider your options?
Picture this…your son is riding his bike outside with his friends. He falls and it looks like his arm might be broken. Ouch! What do you do? Several questions need to be answered in a moment’s time. You must answer the following very quickly:
- Can you transport your son to the Emergency Room safely by yourself?
- Do you have a list of all of your son’s medicines with you (prescription and non-prescription)?
- Do you have your insurance card with you?
Once you have quickly assessed the situation, you may find that the answer to the first question is NO. There are many reasons that you may not be able to take your son to the Emergency Room safely (even if you believe he only has a broken arm). Maybe he should not be moved, he may have a health condition that requires attention in addition to his arm, you may need to tend to him and not be able to drive safely, etc. This is when you will need to call for medical transportation.
There are many forms of medical transportation and we encourage you to know your options before you need them. Here is a list of some medical transportation options that you may want to consider, research, and have the information readily available, in case you ever need it. And, of course, if an emergency happens, please dial 911 immediately.
Ambulance
Obviously this is probably the most widely used and well-known form of medical transportation. You may have ridden in one yourself. Emergency medical personnel are ready to help when needed with this form of ground medical transportation. It may be useful to you to know where your closest ambulance is dispatched from. Many are dispatched from local emergency service locations or fire stations.
Long Distance Ground Ambulance
We at Aero Jet Medical offer this service to our patients. Patients will fit into one of three categories for long distance ground transport: basic life support, critical care transport or advanced life support. We are equipped to handle any medical emergency that arises during transport.

Helicopter Air Ambulance
This is the type of air ambulance that is generally used in a defined area and is usually a primary initial response to an emergency. Many people see these helicopters responding to a motor vehicle accident (as just one example) in which time is critical and ground transportation might prove to slow. Many helicopter air ambulances will take the patient to a trauma center. Therefore, it is always good to know where your local trauma center hospital is (and it may not be in your town, but a larger city nearby). Again, it is better to be prepared before an emergency arises. Also, you can read more about the differences between helicopter air ambulances and fixed wing air ambulances here.
Fixed Wing Air Ambulance
This is the type of air ambulance that we at Aero Jet Medical provide. Our jet engine air ambulance airplanes are an Emergency Room at 40,000 feet. If you find yourself in need of medical transportation (generally over long distance) we will dispatch our air ambulance to you and take you where you need to go safely. We fly globally and our expert critical care team will ensure that you are given the proper care from takeoff to landing.
We are equipped to handle any medical emergency that arises during transport.
